Volleyball Falls to Jackson State, 3-0

After dropping the first set in extra points, the Alabama State (13-19, 4-3) volleyball team could not recover, falling at Jackson State (23-9,6-0) in three sets 27-25, 25-17, and 25-13.  Freshman Maya Bell led the Lady Hornets with a team-high 13 kills in the losing effort.

“The girls really played their hearts out tonight,” said Penny Lucas-White.  “I am very proud of them, they never quit and I still believe that anything can happen.  We are going to still have to make some adjustments in our game, and I feel like our girls still haven't raised the bar to the level where I know they can get.”

Sophomore Luiza Griz tallied a match-high 18 digs, while freshman Erika Thompson registered a team high three blocks two solo.

The first set was close throughout both teams battled back and forth but the Tigers came out on top.  In the second set Jackson State went ahead early forcing Alabama State to play catch up.  A late ASU rally came up short with JSU taking the frame.  The final was tight in the early going but the Tigers took the lead for good and won the third set and the match.

The Tigers were led by Chyna Coleman with a match-high of 14 kills followed by teammate Christine Edwards with 10.  Donisha Dunn led the team with four solo blocks, while Latoya Clark lifted the Tigers with 36 assists.

The Lady Hornets will return to action on Nov. 10 when they head to Huntsville to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.  The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
