The Alabama State volleyball team will take the road Thursday for the Lady Hornets' final regular season match. Alabama State will face state-rival Alabama A&M at 6 p.m. in Huntsville.
The Lady Hornets lost its last match to Jackson State last weekend. Alabama State is 13-19 overall on the season, 4-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Lady Hornets are currently ranked third in the eastern division.
“This is going to be a dog fight for us,” stated Head Coach
Penny Lucas-White. “We are fighting for the number two spot in the division, so we are going to go in and play hard and do the best we can.”
Maya Bell is Alabama State's all-time leader in kills per game in a season with 4.65. She is second in the single-season school record (488) for kills. She is also ranked 10
th in the nation in kills as well as in service aces.
Alabama A&M has won their last four matches the last one coming against cross town rival University of Alabama Huntsville, 3-2. The Bulldogs are 12-17 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Karensa Beckford is the leader of the Alabama A&M squad, she leads the team with 385 kills and a 3.67 per game average.
Following the match Alabama State will wait for the official seedlings for the SWAC Tournament, which will be held Nov. 19-20 in Westwego, La.
