Lady Hornets Basketball Get Set to Host Kennesaw State

Back to the drawing board for the Lady Hornets basketball team, after taking a week off for the Christmas break.  The Alabama State women's basketball team gets set to play Kennesaw State on Thursday, December 29 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 3 p.m. (Note the time change from 6 p.m.)

“I feel that we have accomplished a lot of objectives since we've been back from our break”, Assistant Women's Coach Clayton Harris said.  “I really feel as though the break did our girls some justice.  We saw a lot of great things coming from players such as Taila Arrington who seemed to really have stepped her game up coming out of the break.  The first day we returned to practice we really just focused on ourselves as a whole making sure that we can play a whole game and not just a half.  Then we had to concentrate on preparing ourselves physically and mentally for the upcoming game against Kennesaw.”

The team completed a short week of practice after coming off of Christmas break which began on Tuesday, Dec 20 after they edged over Savannah State 47-45 last Monday evening.  The Lady Hornets improved to a 3-5 overall record.

The Kennesaw State Owls enters Thursday's game with a 5-7 overall mark and a 1-1 Atlantic Sun conference record.  The Owls played their last game a week ago against Troy winning the contest 66-57.

“We know that Kennesaw will be another tough team to compete against,” said Harris.  “We know that we are going to have to come out and play hard against a good Kennesaw State team.  We are going to have to play well offensively and defensively if we want to win this game.  We have played a lot of good teams and we have come up on the short end of a few of them.  The ladies are going to have to step up and be very competitive, because we know that this team is not going to make it easy for us.”

The last time these two teams faced each other was during the 2010 season at the Convocation Center in Kennesaw, Ga. the Lady Hornets were defeated by the Owls 70-67.  Thursday's match-up will only be the second time that the two teams have met.
