Lady Hornets Unable to Survive at Home Against Prairie View

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -   The Alabama State women's basketball team faced a red hot Prairie View basketball team at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday.  The Lady Panthers started off with hot shooting against the lady Hornets opening the game leading 15-0 on Senior Night. After ASU stormed back, Prairie View would eventually pull away at the end for a final of 50-43.

ASU scored its first basket with 12:35 left in the first half.  The Lady Hornets got a spurt of their own with a 19-6 run trailing at the break by only two points.  A three pointer from Tamara Wadlington gave ASU its first lead of the game at the 15:29 mark of the second half.

ASU shot 27 percent when the two schools met in Texas last month.  This time it was Prairie View that shot poor from the field with a 28 percent effort on the night.  The Lady Hornets biggest lead was 34-30 with 9:14 to play.

Senior forward Tanika Jackson was recognized at the conclusion of the game.  Jackson, a Saginaw, Michigan native, has led the team in scoring the past two seasons.  She finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks and a steal.  Tamara Wadlington led ASU with 11 points, six rebounds and six assist.  Robin Jones and Latia each scored a game high 14 points apiece for Prairie View

“Our girls showed a lot of effort tonight”. Head coach Freda-Freeman Jackson noted.  I thought we did a good job on defense which was the difference in the way we played tonight versus the last time we played them”. (Prairie View).

The biggest difference in the game was the free throw disparity.  ASU went 7-12 from the stripe.  Meanwhile, Prairie View had 34 attempts making 70.6 percent of them.

The Lady Hornets will play their final home game of the season hosting Texas Southern Monday night.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm
