Volleyball To Play Troy Tuesday

The Alabama State volleyball team will play Troy Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Sartain Hall in Troy, Ala.

“This is going to be another good match for us,” said head coach Penny Lucas-White.  “We are going to show up to play, work hard and do the best we can.  We know we aren't going to receive our fruits right away, but the team knows that it will come.”

Alabama State is 7-29 against the Trojans.  The last time these two teams met was September 10, 2007 in Montgomery; Troy defeated ASU 3-1.

The Lady Hornets opened its 2011 season at the University of Alabama's Hampton Inn Bama Bash invitational last weekend.  ASU lost its season opener to Alabama 0-3, later falling to Texas State (3-1) and in the final match of the tournament lost to Austin Peay 3-0.

Troy enters Tuesday's match with a 1-2 record, having defeated Akron and falling to host teams Samford and UAB in the Samford/UAB Invitational.

Alabama State's freshman Maya Bell currently leads the team with 40 kills.  She recorded double figure kills with 15, 11 and 14 respectively, while also tallying a team second high of 25 digs over the weekend.  Ana Pego handed out 72 assists and Roselande Corneille recorded a team's best with 29 digs.
