Women's Basketball Back On The Grind, Prep For Prairie View

The Lady Hornets basketball team went back to work on the court early this morning and then later this afternoon in preparation for the Prairie View A&M game slated for Saturday, January 28.

“Practice was pretty productive today,” said Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  “We went over a lot of offense today, since we have lost Tamara Wadlington due to a knee injury that she sustained in the Alcorn game last Saturday.  Tamara was our senior starting point guard and now she will have to sit out for the rest of the season.  We are going to have to start a freshman, who has been starting all season, but just not at the point position.  We have had to make some adjustments on the offensive side of the ball.  The girls worked hard today and their spirits were up in spite the absence of Tamara.  Everyone seems to have bought into our system and they know what their roles are.  So we are going to have to just keep coming in the gym and working hard so we can get the win.”

Alabama State dropped two league games over the weekend.  First falling to the Alcorn State Lady Braves 56-49 on Saturday and then to the Jaguars of Southern University 71-51 on Monday.

“After losing three games in a row we are now going to have to go back to the drawing board,” Freeman-Jackson said.  “We are still excited about this year and we are going to continue to work hard and we are going to work until the end.  We are not out of it yet and we are going to have to bounce back this weekend.  We will continue through the next half of the conference play, which will start next weekend when go to Miss. Valley and Arkansas Pine Bluff. The girls have not given up and they have a positive attitude and they will continue to work hard.”

The Lady Hornets will continue practicing the rest of the week in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome as they prepare for Prairie View at 3 p.m. Saturday and then will face Texas Southern on Monday at 5 p.m.
