Alabama State Women's Basketball to Face Jackson State Thursday Night

The Lady Hornets basketball team arrived in Jackson this afternoon as they prepare to face the Tigers of Jackson State Thursday night in Jackson, Miss.  Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Alabama State (3-7, 0-1) looks to bounce back after their 62-48 fall against Grambling State Tuesday evening.  Jackson State (4-6, 1-0) won its 72-66 contest in overtime against Alabama A&M Tuesday night as well.

“I think the way we practiced tonight that we should win the game tomorrow night,” Assistant Coach Clayton Harris said.  We need to make sure we play good defense and get into our sets and run our offense.  Jackson State is a good rebounding team and we need to make sure that we keep them off of the boards.”

Jackson State lead rebounder and scorer is Tiffany Kellum, she is currently posting 14.0 points per game and has an 8.6 rebound per game mark.  Rachel Jones is leading the Tigers in assist and is following Kellum in scoring averaging 8.7 points per game.

“Jackson State is a basic guard oriented team,” stated Harris.   They shoot the ball off the break they are a fast and big team.  This makes them a better team because of their quickness and their ability to get up and down the court quickly. We are going to have to do a good job of containing Kellum and Jones they are two of the better players on the team as well as in the league.  Kellum is a good post player and Jones is a great guard.  We are just going to have to find a way to control the tempo of the game as well as doing a good job playing defense and this will be the key to us winning this game.”
