“We feel good about the upcoming game,” said Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.   “Any time that Miss. Valley comes here we know that we are going to have to get our running shoes on.  They play extremely hard and they have five returning starters, they are playing really well.  We know that we are going to have to get our defensive shoes on.   They shoot the ball extremely well and every player can shoot a three ball.   We are going to have to play a solid man to man defense against them.

The Lady Hornets split on the road falling 48-62 to Grambling State Tuesday night in their first conference game, then picked up its first SWAC win in a close match-up against Jackson State Thursday night 52-49.

“Practice was good for us today,” Freeman-Jackson stated.  We did some brainstorming, watched film and worked on correcting errors that we made in the previous two games to make sure that we don't make some of the same mistakes. We focused on playing on the defensive end of the ball.”

Kierra Paige has scored double figures in three out of the 11 games that the Lady Hornets have played in this season, bringing her season average to 8.4 points per game.  The freshman from Stone Mountain, Ga. is on top of the team in three-point shooting.  She is currently averaging .296 from the arch.  Quentori Alford continues to lead Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson's squad on the boards with a 7.4 average, while Danielle Gazaway is still atop of the scoring column with an 8.9 point per game ratio.

Senior point guard Tamara Wadlington ranks second in the SWAC for assists, as the Oxford Miss. native has dished out 43 in Alabama State's 11 games.

Saturdays' game between Alabama State and Miss Valley will be the 53rd meeting.  The Devilettes hold a 32-21 overall advantage in the series.  The two teams split last year's contests, with each school winning on its home court.  The Devilettes defeated Alabama State by a score of 71-67 in Greenwood, Miss. while the Lady Hornets won a 62-52 decision in Montgomery, Ala.
