Defense Not Enough In Loss to Golden Lions

Box Score The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff women's soccer team ended Alabama State's five match unbeaten streak, as ASU loss 2-0 Friday night at the Soccer/Intramural Complex.

“Although this was not a divisional match, it was still a disappointing lose,” said head coach Jodie Smith.  “We ended a five game unbeaten streak tonight.  We gave up two soft goals and let them shut us out.”

With a slow start for both teams most of the first half,  the Golden Lions scored goals at the 34 and 38 minute marks for the only goals of the match.

“We need to do better in the defensive third as well as the offensive third,” Smith said.  “There was no way we should have given up two goals like we did.  We are going to have to work harder and get some defensive stops.”

The second half saw a much more different Lady Hornets' team as they controlled the pace of the half, shooting eight times while not allowing the Golden Lions a single shot.  Alabama State held Pine Bluff to three shots for the entire game.

The Lady Hornets will return to action on Sunday at home against Grambling State Sunday at 1 p.m.
“Hopefully we will come out on Sunday after we regroup,” said Smith.  “We look to start a new streak on Sunday.”
