Box Score The Alabama State Women's basketball team jumped out to a quick 20-6 lead never looking back, dominating the Oakwood Lady Ambassadors, 105-30.
“Well it feels good after a weekend like we had in Birmingham,” head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. “I thought our girls did a good job as far as bouncing back and that's what we needed. We were able to run our offense tonight. We had already made up in our mind coming back from Birmingham that we needed to up the tempo, because we had a disastrous performance as far as our half court set is concerned.”
The Lady Hornets went 23 for 32 shooting 71 percent from the field and was 4 of 7 from behind the arch in the first half. Junior college transfer
Nakiya Smith led ASU with 12 points shooting 5 of 7 from the field.
Alabama State (1-3) went into the half leading the Lady Ambassadors 62-17. The Lady Hornets shot 58 percent from the field hitting 40 of 68 shot attempts on the night. ASU was 6 of 14 from behind the arch. The Lady Hornets had a team game-high 26 steals.
“Oh yeah, that's awesome no matter who you're competing against,” said Freeman-Jackson. “That's busy, which means we were active and played team defense and we felt good about what we were doing. I felt good about Peeples getting to the lane, blocking shots, covering a lot of ground. She did well and has a long wing-span and she's very active and agile.”
Smith finished with 20 points on the night, to lead all scorers. Freshman forward

Kierra Paige recorded 16 points each. Sophomore guard
Danielle Gazaway added 10 points to round out all scorers in double figures. Peeples led all rebounders with ten, collecting her first career double-double.
Courtney White, Ashley Gray, and Amber Jones scored seven points each to lead the Lady Ambassadors.
The Alabama State Women's basketball team will return to action Sunday, December 9 when they travel to face Troy University. The game is set for 2 p.m.
