The Alabama State University baseball team released its 2013 baseball schedule, a 54-game regular season slate which includes 27 home contests at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

A three-game series at the 2012 NCAA Champion Arizona Wildcats highlights this year's for the Hornets, who will also compete in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational for the second consecutive year. Alabama State will also play home-and-home matchups with Troy, UAB, South Alabama, Jacksonville State, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Mercer, and a pair of contests at Auburn. Alabama State will host Chicago State (in the Feb. 15 season opener) and IPFW (Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne) among its home schedule.

“Our schedule will be challenging once again,” second-year head coach Mervyl Melendez said. “We want our players to be challenged and play their best every game. Playing against the best teams in the nation will upgrade the level of play of our team and will get us closer to our team goals.”

The three-game series against Chicago State is part of a four-game homestand for Alabama State, which also includes a home game against Mercer. The Hornets will then play at South Alabama before the three-game series in the MLB Invitational in Houston, Texas. Alabama State will end February with home games against Troy and Kennesaw State.

After playing at Jackson State and Auburn, Alabama State will host weekend series against IPFW and Mississippi Valley State, sandwiched around road games at Kennesaw State and Georgia State.
