Box Score
The Alabama State baseball team lost at home to Kennesaw State 14-2 at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The Owls (2-2) had two big innings early to take control of the contest. In the second inning, Kennesaw State took advantage of four Hornet errors to take a 6-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, a three-run homer by Ronnie Freeman broke the game open in a five-run frame to give the Owls an 11-1 lead.
“We made four errors in the second inning; once again they came back to hurt us,” head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. “Whenever we can play a clean game, the score will be different. That game could have been a lot worse than it was. By making as many errors and not being in the ball game, you lose concentration. However, the guys never gave up. The pitchers kept going at it. Kennesaw State had a great night offensively, and hit everything solidly.”
The Hornets (0-5) scored single runs in the third and sixth innings. In the third, a one-out RBI single by
Emmanuel Marrero scored
Leo Rojas, who led off with a walk.
Waldyvan Estrada's double to deep right center scored
Manny Rodriguez in the sixth.
Alabama State returns to action Friday at 2:30 p.m. vs. Stony Brook in the Nicholls State Tournament.
