MONTGOMERY— For the second time this season the Alabama State University volleyball team will play host to a volleyball tournament, this time the ASU Invitational.
The tournament will run Friday-Saturday, Sept. 14-15 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. There are six teams involved in the tournament and there will be six games played on Friday and five on Saturday. The games set to begin at 9 a.m. on both days.
Along with ASU the participants are the University of North Texas, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and the University of Tennessee at Martin. Fellow Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member Jackson State University will also play in the tournament as will ASU's first tournament opponent, and in-state rival, Troy University.
The tournament will get under way with Friday's 9 a.m. game as Sun Belt member North Texas (10-4) will face MEAC reigning conference champion Maryland-Eastern Shore (10-1). The game will feature the two teams with the most wins entering the tournament as both teams already boast 10 early season wins.
The second game of the day will see SWAC member Jackson State (2-7) face Ohio Valley Conference member UT-Martin (1-8).
ASU, like the other teams, will play twice on the first day with their first game coming at 1 p.m. against Troy (6-5), also from the Sun Belt.
The second round of games will begin at 3 p.m. with UT-Martin facing North Texas and Jackson State playing Troy at 5 p.m. The final game of the opening day will feature ASU facing Maryland-Eastern Shore at 7 p.m.
