Soccer Defeats Lipscomb

Box Score The Alabama State soccer team defeated Lipscomb 1-0 at the ASU Soccer Complex on Friday evening.

“Great results on our field in front of our fans,” Head Coach Jodie Smith said. “We worked all week on some of the mistakes we've made in the previous contests. We made a couple of line-up changes, and it worked out for the best. We played a quality ninety minutes, so I'm very pleased about that.”

The Lady Hornets (2-5) started the game slow in the first half getting outshot by the Lady Bisons 8-3. Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway registered a save in the half, while Lipscomb's goalie Erin Zerio registered two.

In the second half, Lipscomb came out on the attack outshooting ASU 7-1, until junior forward India Pleasant knocked in the only and game-winning goal of the contest in the 56th minute of the contest off an assist from junior defender Stephanie Howard, making and capping the score at 1-0.

Alabama State will return to action Tuesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. when they host Georgia Southwestern at the ASU Soccer Complex.

“Will take the weekend off and have a good training session Monday, and hopefully we can build a little momentum from this contest and take it into next week contest,” said Smith.
