Hornets, Arkansas-Pine Bluff Set To Go Primetime

The Alabama State football team had its final practice for Thursday night's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Thursday night live on national television.

Kickoff between the Hornets (2-1 overall, 2-0 SWAC) and Golden Lions (2-1, 1-1) is at 6:30 p.m. It's Faith, Family and Military night as fans are encouraged to wear ASU gold to the game, which will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and televised live on ESPNU.

“It was an extended walkthrough for us,” head coach Reggie Barlow said. “We did more jogging around than we would normally do on Friday. The guys were dialed in. It's a different atmosphere with it being a Thursday game, but the guys are focused and we're excited about the opportunity to play again.”

For the second time this season, the national television spotlight will shine on the football program and Alabama State University on the ESPN Family of Networks. The Hornets' 2012 season opener against Bethune-Cookman was televised on ESPN, and tomorrow night's contest will be shown on ESPNU.

“It's great for our school, for Alabama State University to be televised in millions of homes on Thursday night,” Barlow said. “It's good exposure for us, and hopefully our players will embrace this opportunity.”

Not to be lost in the exposure of a Thursday night game live on ESPNU is the Hornets' opponent. The Golden Lions have one of the SWAC's most talented teams that came within a tiebreaker of representing the West in last year's SWAC Championship Game.

“This is one of the better teams in the conference with a lot of good players in all three phases,” Barlow said. “It's going to be a challenge and it's going to be competitive. We have our work cut out for us, but we're looking forward to it.”
