Lady Hornets to Host Mercer in Season Home Opener

After waiting a week, the Alabama State University women's tennis team will host the Mercer for its season opener at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m.

The Lady Hornets 2012 season wasn't as great as planned playing down a couple of players for then first year Head Coach Anuk Christiansz, but he has other plans for the 2013 campaign. Coach Christiansz and assistant coach Richard Seman recruited hard in the off-season to bring in five hardworking recruits to help anchor this year's squad towards a Southwestern Athletic Conference title.

“We are in a better position than last year,” Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said. “The girls are practicing hard each and every day. We do have a long way to go till we reach the point where I want to take our programs.”

Alabama State finished last season 1-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference, picking up its only victory (6-1) over Mississippi Valley State at the SWAC East Roundup in Baton Rouge.
