Box Score With a 33-33 tie at half time the Alabama State Lady Hornets basketball team couldn't continue its drive falling 63-53 to the Panthers of Prairie View at the William Nicks Building Saturday evening.
Junior
Quentori Alford along with sophomore
Danielle Gazaway led the charge in scoring with 11 points apiece for the Lady Hornets.
Erica Henderson chipped in nine before fouling out. Alford led ASU on the boards with six rebounds.
Both teams battled neck-and-neck most of the game with game seeing 12 lead changes and 10 ties. The largest led for either team was 10 points in the final seven seconds of game.
“Prairie View got a little more physical the second half,” said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. “PV got a lot of chippy calls that helped them capitalize to get the win. This was a game that we should have won, but clearly we didn't make shots and capitalize where we needed to. We would score and then they would score and we just couldn't get our drive back and make the right decisions to win the game.”
ASU turned the ball over 21 times to PV's 11 allowing the Panthers to score 22 points off of the Lady Hornets turnovers.
“We threw the ball away too many times that allowed PV to score,” Freeman-Jackson said. “When you are on the road and you have opportunities to make plays you have to capitalize and we didn't do that tonight. We missed too many chances.”
LaReahn Washington of the Prairie View Panthers led in scoring with 13 points, while teammate Michaela Burton scored 10.
The Lady Hornet's will return to the court Monday, Jan 28 against Texas Southern to complete its Texas swing at 3 p.m. ct.
