Alabama State's football team went through their final preparations for tomorrow's match up against Prairie View A&M.
It is the game of the day among Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) games, as the top two offenses will face off against each other. ASU comes into the game averaging 37.5 points per game while the visitors are close behind at 36.5.
"They are really good and we have to be ready," Head Coach
Reggie Barlow said. "We have faced three or four really good offenses this year, but none like we are going to face Saturday. It all starts with their quarterback (Jerry Lovelocke). He is really good. He has run for five scores and thrown for 10 so we have our work cut out with him."
The Hornets are hoping to control the line of scrimmage as their defensive linemen look to continue on the improved play they have shown over the past few games.
"Our defensive front has to be ready to play," Barlow said. "Prairie View plays fast and their quarterback gets the ball out of his hand really quick. Their offensive line is a lot better than people think. You can't score the way they do and not have a good offensive front; so again, our defensive front has got to be ready to go."
The Hornets offense will look to help the defense out by having long and sustained drives. Something they have not been doing a lot of this year because they score so quickly.
"I really think the only way to slow Prairie View down is for our offense to keep the ball," Barlow said. "If we are on the field on offense that means their offense is not on the field. We need to take care of the ball and stay on the field for extended drives, and most importantly, end those drives in the end zone."
The opening kickoff at New ASU Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. All fans are encouraged to join the Alabama State family in helping raise awareness for Breast Cancer by wearing pink to Saturday's game.
The game can be watched live on Hornet Vision while the game can also be listened to live on WVAS FM 90.7. Live stats will also be available on bamastatesports.com.
