Alabama State made their way to Birmingham for a full day of activities before settling down to get some rest before tomorrow's 72
nd State Farm Magic City Classic.
The day started with the annual Magic City Classic luncheon followed by a short walk through at Legion Field. From there the Hornets settled down with a dinner and team meetings before lights out.
"It is going to be business as usual for us," Head Coach
Reggie Barlow said. "We are going to embrace that this is a big game, that this is another opportunity for us to get another win, which would be six straight, so we are looking forward to that."
Even with all of the pageantry the Classic holds, ASU enters the game 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference and cannot afford to drop another conference game.
"Its SWAC play and really you can't afford to lose more than one game to have a chance to play for the championship," Barlow said. "I don't see it as pressure I just see it as that is what football is. We have to keep working.
In looking at the game itself, a lot has been said about the strength of Alabama A&M's conference-leading defense, but Barlow sees a big problem the Bulldogs offense poses.
"This is the biggest offensive line we have played against," Barlow said. "They are big across the front line, which means they are probably going to pound the ball. They have some big guys so it is really going to be a challenge for us to fight and get off blocks to make a tackle."
The Classic is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. from Legion Field. It can be watched live on ESPN3 with a tape delay broadcast of the game set for 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU. The game can also be heard live on WVAS FM 90.7 beginning with the pregame show at 2:15 p.m. Heritage Radio Sports Network (HSRN) will also broadcast the game live on Sirius Radio Channel 110.
