Tiara Kelley had a career-high 20 kills and Rachel Smith added 13, but it was not enough as ASU dropped a 3-2 (15-25, 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 9-15) game at Texas Southern stopping the Lady Hornets win streak at 11.

"We have not played well the last few games, but I thought we played better tonight," Head Coach Penny Lucas-White said. "TSU is a very good team and they showed why they are the top team in the West Division of the SWAC."

The game pitted the top two teams in the SWAC and it looked that way as both teams battled back and forth for five games. TSU took the opening game 25-15 out hitting the Lady Hornets .432 to -.083.

ASU came back to win the next two games by scores of 26-24 and 25-22. ASU did a much better job of completing plays in those games hitting .300 and .229.

TSU came back to win the fourth game in another close set 25-21 and pulled the win out with a 15-9 win in the fifth and final set.

The Lady Hornets hit .174 in the game and totaled five blocks with Beasley and Myla Marshall totaling two each. Brooke Beasley had a double-double with a game-high 38 assists and 10 digs. Luiza Griz added 12 digs in the game.

ASU stands 16-13 overall while TSU moves to 11-8. The Lady Hornets are back on the road Tuesday, Oct. 29 for a 7 p.m. game at Alabama-Birmingham.

"We will have a short week this week with our mid-week game," Lucas-White said. "I expect us to use this week to get back on the court and become a better team. This was a great loss and a great wake up call. It couldn't have come at a better time."
