Box Score The Alabama State University women's basketball team captured a home victory over the Tigers of Stillman College with a final score of 80-52.
Danielle Gazaway led the way for the Lady Hornets with 11 points, three rebounds and four assist.
Quentori Alford led the team pulling down 11 rebounds and nine points. The Lady Hornet's bench played a big part in to outcome outscoring Stillman 46-21.
"I was glad that our bench players played well and were productive, four of our freshman got some great game experience, getting them ready for SWAC play," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "Danielle is coming around, and adjusting to moving from the two-guard position to the point but, overall she had a good game as our leading scorer".
The Lady Hornets out-rebounded Stillman 64-37. Defensively Alabama State had a game high of nine blocks, five coming from Alford.
After a 7-7 start by both teams in the first half, the Hornets put their game in overdrive as they went on an impressive 12-0 run which spanned from the 14 minute mark until the Tigers finally hit a lay-up with 10 minutes left in the half, pushing their lead to double digits 19-7. The Lady Hornets would then continue to outscore the Tigers 17-14 closing out the half with a buzzer beating 3-pointer by
Nakiya Smith extending their lead 36-21.
The first half highlighted by the Lady Hornets shooting 5-8 (62.5%) from behind the arc and 41% overall from the entire field, also showcased the Alabama State defense limiting the Tigers offensive shooting to just 5-27 (18.5%) from the field as well as outrebounding them 30-16 to close the half.
" I thought defensively we settled in much better in the second half, anytime we can keep a team in the 50's it's a good job, "said Freeman-Jackson

Kierra Paige led the Lady Hornets for the half with seven points and an assist. Alabama State continued its scoring lighting up the scoreboard extending their lead to as big as 31. ASU's Defense also stepped up as they forced Stillman to go 11-38 (28.9%) from the field.
"We will look to improve on our turnovers, we set a goal around 12 per game and as you can see we doubled that, so we have to just do a better job in controlling the ball and we should be ok," said Freeman-Jackson. "We also need to control our fouling in both halves we had 11 fouls and that's,where we need to take a better defensive stand and not get behind the players, but move our feet and make sure we play good defense."
Alabama State will play host to Bluefield College Friday, November 15
th at the Dunn-Olive Acadome. The contest is slated for 5p.m.
