The Alabama State women's basketball team will return to the hardwood after a five day break, to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the first round of the two day classic. Tip-off is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the McCamish Pavilion. The Ladies will play either Brown or Hampton on Monday time to be determined.

The Lady Hornets has faced the Yellow Jackets only two times since the inception of the program. Both times were at Georgia Tech, the first time coming December 30, 2005 falling 76-46 and the last time on Nov. 11, 2011 (97-37).

Alabama State will enter Sundays contest with a 6-3 record after sliding by Savannah State in a 57-52 win, led by the efforts of senior
Quentori Alford. She led the team with her second double-double in the young season of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Senior
Taila Arrington chipped in her third game of the season with 10 points.

Alford leads the Lady Hornets on the boards averaging 9.9 rebounds per game and averages 10.4 points with 21 block shots to add to her season numbers.Â
Nakiya Smith leads the squad in scoring averaging 11.7 points per contest. Fifth year senior
Jamesha Blake adds 6.3 points a game for Alabama State.

Georgia Tech will enter the contest with an 8-3 record after falling to Oklahoma State 68-60 at the Puerto Rico Classic last weekend. The Yellow Jackets are led in scoring by freshman forward Kaela Davis, which is averaging 18.5 points after 11 games, while teammate senior guard Tyaunna Marshall is scoring 16.8 points. She is leading the team in rebounds with 7.7 per contest.

"This is another competitive game for us," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "We know that Georgia Tech is a good team, they are quick and big. All we can do is come in and play our game to the best of our ability. We are going to come in and compete and play defense. I tell our girls they are ball players just like we are and we are going to play like ball players."
