Box Score c as Alabama State women's basketball team dropped a 68-64 contest to Grambling State Saturday afternoon at the Frederick C. Hobdy Center in Grambling, La.
Both Teams went back and forth throughout most of the first half, with neither team wanting to relinquish the lead. The Lady Hornets were able to go on a 5-0 run with less than six minutes less to go in the half. Grambling quickly chipped into Alabama State's lead knotting a final tie at the 1:09 mark. The Lady Tigers took a 30-28 advantage going into the locker room.
Alabama State would come into the second half tying (33-33) the game up for its final time at the 18:33 mark.
Grambling then advanced by as many as eight points before allowing a
Kierra Paige three pointer to close the game out.
Alabama State falls to 9-20 and 7-11 to end the 2012-13 regular season, meanwhile the Lady Tigers improve to an 8-22 overall record and 6-12 in conference before heading to the SWAC Tournament. Both teams will once again meet in Garland, Texas during the first round of the Toyota SWAC Tournament on Tuesday, March 12 at 8 p.m.
Alabama State had a good day on the boards out-rebounding the Lady Tigers 50-36.
Quentori Alford and
Jasmine Peeples paced both teams with 13 rebounds apiece. Henderson was good on 4-of-10 shots from the field including three 3-pointers to lead the team. Junior
Taila Arrington joined Henderson in the double-digit scoring column with 10 points.
Joanna Miller led all scorers with 29 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, and Cierra Ceazar nested 23. Bianca McCowan led the Lady Tigers with eight rebounds.
“We didn't play to our potential,” head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson quoted, while talking tothe WVAS sports talk crew. “We are a better team than we actually played like tonight. At this point we need to move on from this game and go onto the next.”
