Southern Defeats ASU Women's Tennis

The Alabama State Women's tennis team was defeated by Southern 6-1 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Hornets fought hard, but didn't match up with the Lady Jaguars after dropping each of their doubles matches and grasping a win in singles. Melissa Telfer defeated Southern's Danielle Dixon 6-1, 6-3 in singles competition to capture ASU's lone point.

“The girls played really well today,” assistant coach Richard Seman said. “Melissa played extremely well in the number three spot for us today. Southern is an experienced team and has a lot of fight. We are young and still have a long way to go, but I'm elated to say that they are improving. We have a tough day tomorrow playing against Alcorn and Jackson State. We need to stay focused and do what we have to do to win.”

The Alabama State Men's and Women's tennis teams will host Jackson State at 9 a.m. and Alcorn at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center during the final day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup.
