Hornets Lose Series At Arizona

TUSCON, Az. – Alabama State ended a three-game weekend series at Arizona with an 18-3 loss Sunday at Hi Corbett Field.
 
The Hornets (27-22) got into an early offensive hole, as Arizona (28-14) scored at least one run in every inning, including a three-run second and five-run third to break the game open.
 
Alabama State scored in the fifth and sixth innings. Emmanuel Marrero singled to left to lead off the inning. Dexter Price and Einar Muniz both walked to load the bases, before Marcus Swint's sacrifice fly scored Marrero from third.
 
In the sixth, Raul Perez walked and scored on Ryan Thompson's triple down the right field line. With one out, Marrero's groundout to third scored Thompson.
 
The Hornets return to action Wednesday at Jacksonville State at 6:30 p.m.
 
Late Saturday report – Arizona 4, Hornets 3 (10 innings) – A dropped pop up with two outs in the 10th allowed the winning Arizona run to score.
 
Alabama State took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI groundout by Swint, scoring Marrero who was hit by a pitch.
 
The Hornets broke a 1-1 tie with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Richard Gonzalez singled to lead off the seventh, and was bunted over to second base. Dillon Cooper's single to left field gave Alabama State a 2-1 lead.
 
In the eighth, Richard Amion singled with two out, and scored on Leo Rojas' triple to left field.
 
The Wildcats scored two runs in the eighth, before scoring the winning run in the 10th.
 
Hornet starter Joel Alvira went 7 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, two earned, with one walk and two strikeouts. Rojas and Cooper each had two hits for Alabama State.
