FORT WORTH, Texas. - The Alabama State baseball team erased a six-run deficit with four runs in the eighth inning and three in the ninth to beat Southern 10-9 to advance to the SWAC Tournament semifinals.
 
With one out in the ninth, Dillon Cooper doubled to left field, and Dexter Price walked. Emmanuel Marrero doubled down the left field line to score Cooper to move Price to third.  Pinch hitter Raul Perez laid down a perfect safety squeeze bunt to score Price, and when the ball was booted by Southern, Marrero scored with the winning run.
 
In a game that began after 10 p.m local time and ended at 1:15 Friday morning, the late-game comeback began in the eighth. Cooper led off with a single to right field, followed by a walk to Price. With one out, pinch-hitter Einar Muniz walked to load the bases. Richard Amion then walked to score Cooper. Leo Rojas then doubled to left field, scoring Price and pinch-runner Edgardo Rivera. Richard Gonzalez' RBI groundout scored Rojas to cut the Southern lead to 9-7.
 
The Hornets scored first in a three-run third inning on a two-run single by Gonzalez and an RBI single by Branden Castro. Southern (21-22) responded with five in the fifth inning to lead for the first time. After the Hornets stranded the bases loaded in the sixth, the Jaguars scored three in the seventh and one in the eighth to take a 9-3 lead.
 
Castro went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Rojas, Cooper and Marrero each had two hits for the Hornets.
