Hornets Ready for UAPB

Alabama State has arrived in Arkansas for their game tomorrow against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Both teams were picked to win their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) divisions and both enter tomorrow's match up losers of their first two games.

ASU has pinpointed several areas of concern after the first two games and has worked on improving those areas heading into Saturday's game.

"Our problems have been a combination of things," Head Coach Reggie Barlow said. "We have missed our protection, we have dropped passes, we have thrown interceptions and we have dropped interceptions we should have made, so it has not been just one thing, but all of these little things have led us to losing the first two games."

ASU goes into the game with the SWAC's leading rusher Isaiah Crowell who has rushed for 272 yards averaging over nine yards per carry in the first two games. He was named the SWAC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week. He also went over 1,000 career yards at ASU and enters this week's contest with 1,114 yards.

Derrick Billups is coming off a game which saw him with a career high 12 tackles from his defensive tackle position. He received the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

The main thing coaches are looking for is improvement from one game to the next and that is true for the Hornets.

"I am always looking to see effort and see how our guys compete," Barlow said. I also want to make sure we are doing what we practice and we as coaches don't put them in bad situations. We also have to take advantage of the opportunities we get and score points when we have the chance."
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 at 4 p.m. and will be shown tape delay at 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Live action can be heard on WVAS FM 90.7 beginning at 3:45 p.m.
