Alabama State University's volleyball team traveled to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama in their final game before starting Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action this weekend.
Alabama was able to win the three-set game by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-13. ASU was unable to get much offense going during the match as
Brooke Beasley led the Lady Hornets in kills with six and
Amber Bennett added four.
Ellyn Jones led ASU with 12 assists and
Luiza Griz had a game-high 10 digs.
The Lady Hornets front line played tough with the team from the Southeastern Conference as they finished the game with seven total blocks compared to three for Alabama. Bennett once again had a game-high four blocks (1 BS, 3 BA).
"This was another good test for our team as we get ready to begin our conference games this weekend," Head Coach
Penny Lucas-White said. "Everything we do in these games we play is to get us ready for conference. We always talk about being ready for the SWAC and winning a SWAC championship and playing teams like Alabama is part of the process to get us ready."
ASU will begin conference play on the road facing Alcorn State at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 and playing at Mississippi Valley State Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
