Alabama State University volleyball team went on the road to begin Southwestern Athletic Conference action and came away with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-5) win at Alcorn State.
ASU finished the action hitting .473 for the three-set game with a game-high .600 hitting percentage in the second set.
Amber Bennett led the offense with a game-high 12 kills and
Khryssnee Madison had five.
Ellyn Jones finished with 14 assists and
Brooke Beasley had 13. Beasley actually had a strong all-around game. She had four kills in five attacks without an error meaning she hit .800. She also had six digs, three service aces and four blocks.
ASU (6-12/1-0 SWAC) had a season-high 13 service aces in the game with
Rachel Smith's five leading the way. Jones also chipped in with four aces.
Luiza Griz had a game-high 11 digs.
The Lady Hornets defense was stellar holding Alcorn State (0-9/0-1 SWAC) to a -.065 hitting percentage. ASU finished with eight blocks as Bennett joined Beasley with a game-high four.
"This was a good start to the SWAC season for us," Head Coach
Penny Lucas-White said. "It is always good to be able to go on the road and pick up a conference win. We must keep our focus and intensity for tomorrow's game at Mississippi Valley if we want to pick up another win."
The Lady Hornets conference-opening road trip continues tomorrow at Mississippi Valley State when the two teams meet a 1 p.m.
