Box Score Jasmine Peeples set a new personal best this season in points and rebounds with 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Alabama State to a 92-45 victory over in-state rival Alabama A&M on Saturday evening at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
The Lady Hornets (9-7 overall, 2-3 SWAC) jumped out to an early 17-4 lead early in the first half. The Lady Hornets set a season high by scoring 50 points before the half. Peeples led the Lady Hornets in the half with ten points, while 
Brittney Wright and 
Tabitha Bradshaw added seven points apiece.  
"The girls did a good job playing defense they held them (Alabama A&M) to 21 points in the first half," said head coach 
Freda Freeman-Jackson "that was the biggest thing that impressed me tonight."
The Lady Hornets scored a series high 92 points against Alabama A&M and held them to just 45 points. Other Lady Hornets in double figures were 
Brittney Wright with 14 and 
Kayla Tucker with 11. 
Ashunte Smith scored a season high of nine points. 
Brittney Smith led the team with a season high 14 assists and 
Quentori Alford snatched down 11 rebounds. The Lady Hornets had a season high of 29 assists.
"I was really pleased with Peeples she stayed around the basket she did a great job of blocking shots and making those second chance points," said coach Freeman Jackson about the 6-2 sophomore from Selma, Ala.
 
Alabama State jumped out to an early 19-7 lead before the first media break and never looked back. The Lady Hornets shot 38-of-79 from the field (48%) and shot 8-of-25 from behind the arch (32%) for the game. ASU out-rebounded the Lady Bulldogs 59-32.
"I was really pleased with their performance anytime you have 29 assist that shows you it was really a team effort," said head coach Freeman-Jackson "during the half I told them let's keep them under 50 and that's what we did. We attacked hard on the boards which created a lot of points in the paint and off of 2
nd chances. The girls really worked hard and understood what this rivalry meant."
Alabama A&M was led by Brittney Strickland who put up 23 points in the Lady Bulldogs effort. They were held to 26 percent from the and 7 percent from behind the arch.  
The Lady Hornets will travel to Lorman, Miss. on Saturday, January 25 to face the Alcorn Braves tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
