Tennis Faces South Alabama

Head Coach Anuk Christinsz overlooks the Hornets practice as they prepare for South Alabama.
The Alabama State University's tennis programs will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Mobile to face South Alabama with both matches set to begin at 1 p.m.

Both teams will be looking for their first wins of the season as both fell in Starkville last weekend at Mississippi State University.

USA's men will enter the weekend with a 2-2 record and are coming off a 6-1 win over Nicholls State. They are led by Daniel Leitner who is the 117th ranked player in the nation.

Meanwhile the Hornets (0-1) are still looking for that first win after falling at MSU last weekend to open the season.

USA's women enter the weekend having not played a match yet and the Lady Hornets are looking to build off a match against Mississippi State where they were very competitive.

"From last weekend we competed well," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said. "After we came back we had a meeting with both teams and I told them what we needed to work on."

"The intensity and effort level was there last week and I want to continue that, but I also want to continue to work on taking advantage of the opportunities we had. We are heading in the right direction and we need a lot of good matches to build up our confidence in our level of match play."

South Alabama is a program that has had a lot of success in the past on the court and should be another strong opponent as ASU looks to build their program.

"South Alabama has always been a good program and I am looking forward to playing matches against programs like theirs," Christiansz said. "It will help us as we look to get to the next level."
