With the first seed in the East Division of the SWAC volleyball tournament already locked up, the Alabama State women's volleyball team will now eye a second straight undefeated season in conference.
Â
In order to do so, the Lady Hornets (12-17 overall, 6-0 SWAC) will have to defeat two opponents that it defeated in straight sets earlier this season.Â
First, Alabama State will take on Alcorn State (8-16 overall, 2-4 SWAC) on Friday at 7 p.m.  Then, it will follow with a quick turnaround for Senior Day and a game against Mississippi Valley State (4-24 overall, 0-6 SWAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
Both games will be played at Lockhart Gym. Seniors
Brooke Beasley,
Erika Thompson,
Dragana Cvoric,
Ellyn Jones and team manager Shan Jones will be all be honored in a special pre-game tribute prior to the start of Saturday's game.Â
In the prior meeting with the Lady Braves on Oct. 10 , four ASU players had at least seven kills, the team collectively racked up a .308 hitting percentage with nine aces and the Lady Hornets swept 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-11) in just under an hour.Â
The Lady Hornets had a similar dominant effort against the Devilettes in their meeting on Oct. 11 with a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-20, 25-19). JuniorÂ
Myla Marshall put forth one of her most impressive performances of the season with season-highs of 18 kills and a .654 hitting percentage. She only committed a single error and added four digs and three blocks for good measure.Â
The possibility of the perfect conference record is something that keeps ASU players highly motivated.Â
"It shows how determined the girls are to have a shot at this," said ASU women's volleyball coach
Penny Lucas-White. "It's about making a strong statement about where our program is headed. They set some goals and they've lived up to them. We are not going to look beyond anybody. We need to finish knowing that no opportunities are wasted. That's our mantra for the remainder of the season. I hear them talking about it all the time. It helps our psyche."
