Box Score The Lady Hornets basketball team outscored the Tigers 12-0 in the last four minutes of play as Savannah State topped the Lady Hornets 71-62, at the Tiger Arena Thursday night.

Britney Wright (19 points) and freshman
Miracle Mayo (11 pts.) were the driving force behind the run. With the combination of Wright making lay-ups and free throws and Mayo rebounding the ball on both ends of the court the two proved to be the final push that ASU needed to cut the once 14 point lead to get within five points (65-60).

Alabama State (2-1) came out of half time cold as they allowed Savannah State (2-1) to push a 19 point lead by the 13:35 mark, as the score was only a two point difference (37-35) in favor of SSU at the half.

"We played tough but the ending result wasn't quit the way I intended for it to be," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "Savannah State pressed us and we just couldn't shake it. We didn't play ASU defense either."

Daniele Ewert finished with 10 points Mayo led both teams cleaning up on the boards with 15, while Wright had 11 rebounds. As a team the Lady Hornets shot 85 percent from the free stripe going 17-20.Â

Ezinne Kalu led both teams in scoring with 25, teammates Tlyonda Davis and Jasmine Norman had 12 points
apiece in the win. As a team Savannah State on shot 47 percent from the field.

The first eight minutes of the game saw the Tigers take a 12 point advantage over the Lady Hornets. ASU cut the deficit to get within one at the 6:34 mark. Both teams went back and forth until Alabama State made a defensive stop.Â
Danielle Gazaway drilled a jumper and a pair of free throws to close out the first half.

The Lady Hornets out-rebounded the Tigers 56-36, while shooting 29.6 percent from the field.

"Even though we out-rebounded Savannah State," Freeman-Jackson said. "We still didn't do a good job defending the ball like we should have. We had a lot of opportunities, but didn't take advantage of them like we should have. We will go back and get ready for Mobile"

The Lady Hornets will return to the court Sunday as they will play the University of Mobile on Sunday, November 23 in Mobile, Ala.
