Lady Hornets Basketball Host Jackson State For Senior Night

The Alabama State women's basketball team will host Jackson State for Senior Night and close out regular season play on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
The contest will be broadcasted on WVAS 90.7 FM.  Fans can also receive updates on twitter, Facebook and Instagram throughout the contest on. Live stats will also be available as well as live streaming on www.bamastatesportscom.
 
This will be the 68th contest between these two schools.  The Jackson State Tigers leads the overall series 34-33 since the 1981 season.  Since the Freda Freeman era Alabama State holds a 21-11 advantage.  Earlier in the season Jackson State defeated the Lady Hornets 71-64 in Jackson.
 
"We were tit for tat with Jackson when we played them last, but we just couldn't finish" said Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "When playing on the road it's always hard, but now that we are home, it always makes a difference with our sixth man (Our Fans)."
 
The night marks senior night and Connection Day.  Alabama State will honor five seniors, fifth year senior Jamesha Blake, Nakiya Smith, Amaria Brown, Taila Arrington and Quentori Alford.  Connection Day is slated for junior high and high school students who will find out about the programs that are offered at ASU. 
 
Jackson State is led in scoring and rebounding by Ayanna Hardy-Fuller, which is averaging 11.5 ppg and 6.9 rpg.  Alabama State's Quentori Alford is the second leading rebounder in the conference averaging 8.3 rebounds per contest.  Nakiya Smith is in the top 10 of the conference rankings scoring 13.3 points per game.  Alford also averages 7.2 points, which includes three double-doubles on the season.    
 
"Nakiya has been playing very well for us," said Freeman-Jackson.  "I am proud of the team as a whole, we have had momentum and I hope that we can finish our regular season in this final game with the same momentum that we have had in the last seven games."
