Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Crimson Tide tops Lady Hornets

Playing Alabama for the first time in seven years, the Alabama State women's soccer team went up to Tuscaloosa and took an 8-0 loss Sunday afternoon in only the second ever meeting between the teams.

The Crimson Tide (5-3-1) tested ASU early, often, and throughout the match, outshooting the Lady Hornets 31-7.

ASU (3-6) applied some pressure early on in the match when freshman Sabina Claesson had her shot attempt blocked in the sixth minute.

Sophomore Aaliyah Lewis, the Lady Hornets' top scorer this season, then fired a shot high of the goal just 12 seconds later.

Junior Annalika Steyn struck first in the seventh minute for the Crimson Tide by getting a shot off a loose ball that scurried in front of the net.

Steyn would go on to have a huge day, picking up the hat trick for her first three goals of the season.

Her second goal was off a rebound from teammate Laura Lee Smith's shot in the 12th minute.

That made it a 3-0 Alabama lead.

Steyn's third goal came in the 32th minute on another assist from Smith.

Freshman Ally Ocon had two goals and an assist while Alexis Mouton, Hailey Brohaugh, and Maruschka Waldus each scored as well for Alabama.

Senior goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway made four saves for ASU.
