Box Score A day after its' match had been pushed back because of transportation issues, the Alabama State women's volleyball team lost its' rescheduled match at Texas Southern Saturday morning in four sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 28-26) in a nonconference match.
For ASU, junior
Lorena Rosario reset her season-high in kills for the second consecutive match, coming up with 11 kills on 27 total attacks. Senior
Brooke Beasley collected a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs and also mixed in four aces. And, junior
Rachel Smith put down 11 kills to go along with eight digs and three assisted blocks to lead the Lady Hornets.
But, Alabama State (4-15) had troubling closing out sets. The team fought hard, tying the match on 25 occasions and traded the lead with the Tigers nine times. But it was the strength of play from Robyn Shannon (21 kills) and Kali Fluke (12 kills) who helped carry Texas Southern (3-12).
ASU freshman middle blocker
Briana Dorsey had another efficient game, collecting five kills against just one error on 10 attacks (.400 hitting percentage) to go along with five combined blocks.
Amber Bennett had eight kills while
Myla Marshall chipped in with six kills.
Alabama State will return home for its SWAC home opener against Alabama A&M on Friday at 7 p.m. at Lockhart Gymnasium.
