ASU falls to Loyola-Chicago

The Alabama State women's volleyball team started quickly in the early stages of its match against Loyola-Chicago, but fell 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 9-25) at the McKale Center in Tucson on Saturday to conclude play in the Arizona Invitational. 
 
The Lady Hornets (2-5) scored five of the first seven points to begin the match and battled back-and-forth with the Ramblers to the tune of seven ties and four lead changes.  

However, the Ramblers (3-3) were aided by an 8-1 run and closed out the first set with a kill by Kathleen Vogel. 
 
In the second set, ASU trailed throughout and attempted to rally back by reeling off five consecutive points late. LU was able to stave off the threat and hold for a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 set lead. 
 
The Lady Hornets got off to a slow start in the third set falling behind 10-2.
    
Junior Myla Marshall had a team-high eight kills and two blocks, outside hitter Rachel Smith had five kills and four digs, and senior Ellyn Jones added nine assists and six digs.
 
Senior setter Brooke Beasley had seven assists, four digs and three blocks. 
 
Alabama State will return home to host Troy on Tuesday 7 p.m. at Lockhart Gym.
