ASU WBB Set to Clash with Devilettes For Second Road Trip Action

The Alabama State women's basketball team is set to get under way the second conference road game as they face Mississippi Valley State Monday, January 12 at the Leflore County Civic Center.

The Lady Hornets (6-7, 2-1 SWAC) opened its road play against Arkansas-Pine Bluff coming away with a 64-53 decision on the Lady Lions home court.

"Tomorrow's game is another important game for us, it's hard to win on the road so we need to do everything we can to carry over the momentum form Saturday," head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson stated.  "We need to continue stay focused and be more aggressive on the defensive end or making baskets when we need to."

Mississippi Valley will enter Monday's contest 2-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.  Valley lost their last contest against Alabama A&M 63-58.

"I always say that records don't matter," said Freeman-Jackson.  "Valley is looking for a conference win and we are not trying to give it to them.  I always feel like it's how you play the game, Valley hasn't been playing well, but they always find a way to play hard and tough against us and we need to do the same thing.  They beat us twice last season and three other games before that.  It has been a while since we've defeated Miss. Valley, whether it has been at home or here at their place."

The Devilettes have two players averaging double figures, Christina Reed (12.3) and Ashley Beals (11.2).  Reed also leads Mississippi Valley on the boards averaging 7.3 per game.

"Valley is a good solid team," Freeman-Jackson said.  "They are quick and can get up and down the court.  We have to be able to contain Reed and Beals that are Valley's leading scorers.  Really I feel like we just need to make sure that we play defense."
