Women's Tennis Host Troy

Alabama State University's women's tennis team will host their first match of 2015 when the Trojans of Troy come to Montgomery Friday, Jan. 30.  The match will be played at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center and will begin at 2 p.m.

ASU (0-2) enters the match looking for their first win of the season while Troy (0-2) will also be looking for their first win of the season.

"We have done some good things like picking up a win in last week's match," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said.  "I would like for us to be a little deeper than we are.  We are going into the match with a few injuries and that will not help us at all, but I will be looking for some better effort from the bottom half of our lineup."

"We are getting better.  I think last week we won at one doubles and had some chances at two doubles.  So I'm hoping to build some confidence off that and to work on some things that will help us take it to the next level."

The match is the first of eight home matches the Lady Hornets will host this season, but it will be the first match of the season that doesn't include both teams.  The Lady Hornets are looking to build on a record-setting 2014 season when they won a total of 11 matches during the season and getting on the court more and more can lead to similar success in 2015.

"The more we can get in some competition on the court and have some success we can begin to build our confidence," Christiansz said.  "Just like last week when we had some players that had chances to win their matches, that would have given them more confidence heading into this week's action and if they could have won the doubles point that would have given the whole team more confidence."

"I think what we need is to win some matches, to win some matches individually and that will build up the team confidence and that's what we need."
