Lady Hornets are eastward bound

ORANGEBURG, SC  – The Alabama State volleyball team will attempt to keep their winning streak alive as the Lady Hornets hit the road again for nonconference matches on Tuesday at South  Carolina State and on Wednesday at Savannah State.

ASU (12-12), gets a short turnaround after coming back to Montgomery past midnight Sunday morning on the heels of a 5-0 romp through the SWAC Round-Up in Jackson, Miss.

Alabama State has won six in a row.

Tuesday's match in Orangeburg  at Dukes Gymnasium will give the Lady Hornets their first opportunity since the opening match of the season to go over the .500 mark.
In their last meeting, ASU defeated SC State 3-0 on Aug. 30, 2014 in the ISTAP Collegiate Cup held in Montgomery.

The first set was tight between the teams with ASU pulling out a 26-24 first set win before turning up the pressure for 25-13 and 25-19 wins in the second and third sets.

Amber Bennett and Myla Marshall each put up big performances with 12 kills and nine kills, respectively, for ASU.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-14) have been led by Brianna Dafney, who has a team-best 131 kills.

ASU beat Savannah State earlier this season 3-0 in the Kennesaw State Invitational on Aug. 29.

It was steady throughout with the Lady Hornets winning the sets in 18, 17 and 16.

Kimeko Bennett starred in the first matchup with 11 kills on a .429 hitting percentage.

The Lady Tigers (0-24) hit just 0.23 in the match up.
