Lady Hornets sweep Savannah St.

SAVANNAH, GA –  The Alabama State women's volleyball team played a disciplined match, limited their team errors, and closed out down the stretch to win at Savannah State 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-21) on Wednesday night in a nonconference tilt between SWAC and MEAC schools at Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.

ASU (14-12) hit .368 as a team and extended their winning streak to eight.

Myla Marshall led with 13 kills and four blocks, Briana Dorsey added eight kills and Kimeko Bennett finished with six kills for the Lady Hornets.

In the first set, ASU kept a disciplined approach on defense and laid off wayward balls that drifted outside the lines.

The Lady Hornets held an 19-8 advantage when the first timeout of the match was called.

Dorsey had three kills on three total attacks in the set and Riley MacDonald led with five assists in the set.

In the second set,  Marshall and K. Bennett each had big sets with five kills and four kills respectively.

The Lady Tigers (0-26) were able to cut the lead to 10-9 after a service ace by Alexis Washington that capped a stretch in which Savannah State won six of eight points.

However, ASU fired back with four kills by Marshall and a pair from K. Bennett to extend the lead to 20-11 and coasted to victory.

The teams were even at 9-9 in the third set and then ASU won five of the following six points to get an arm's length lead at 14-10.  Marshall, K. Bennett and Dorsey each had a kill in the run.
