MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State women's soccer team had the opportune start that the team and head coach
Jodie Smith had been looking for—a jump-starting goal in the opening 10 minutes of play over a SWAC rival.Â
Â
Junior
Aaliyah Lewis scored for the second straight match and for the fifth time in the past five matches when a rebounded shot from
Emily Fleming came back to her in the ninth minute.
Â
AA. Lewis found the back of the net as ASU struck first, but the situation changed dramatically from there as Texas Southern rallied back with three first half goals, two by Marlyn Campa, and eventually won 6-1 on Friday night at the ASU Soccer Complex.Â
Â
The Lady Hornets (5-10-1 overall, 5-3 SWAC) limped away from the match heavily wounded with various injuries to four of its starters including freshman midfielder
Larissa White, who was taken to the hospital after an apparent leg injury.Â
Â
The Lady Tigers (6-10, 4-4 SWAC) also received a pair of goals from Kailand Thompson, and one goal apiece from Tiana Humphrey and Kaylah Valdry.Â
Â
TSU outshot ASU 17-10 including 9-5 for shots on goal opportunities.Â
Â
Next, Alabama State will host Prairie View A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.Â
Â
A Senior Day tribute will begin at 12:40 p.m. for the eight seniors on the Lady Hornets squad.Â
