PINE BLUFF, AR. – The Alabama State women's soccer team will conclude its conference road weekend when the Lady Hornets visit SWAC opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start at Pumphrey Stadium.
The Lady Hornets (2-7-1, 2-0 SWAC) have won consecutive SWAC matches by a margin of 1-0 with the latest at Grambling State on Friday evening and other coming eight days earlier at home against Howard.
With Prairie View losing to Mississippi Valley State 6-1 on Friday, ASU remains the only undefeated and untied team in conference play in the SWAC.
Mississippi Valley St. has pushed ahead in points (seven) with a 2-0-1 conference record, but has played in one more match than ASU.
Alabama State will seek to continue its recent success against Pine Bluff in the series.
In last season's meeting with the Golden Tigers, Alabama State cruised to a 7-0 home victory as both
Aaliyah Lewis and
Kayla Edwards each completed the hat trick in the match.
Kaedi Walther also scored for the Lady Hornets.
ASU will attempt to pull out another win without its top two scorers.
Aa. Lewis and
Ariela Lewis will serve the second—and final—match of each player's two-match suspension for receiving red cards in the Howard match.
Pine Bluff (3-6, 2-2 SWAC) has looked much more improved this season as it is coming off a decisive 5-0 win at home against Alabama A&M on Friday.
Ciera Fenwick scored twice and Karissa Fenwick tallied the first goal of the match for the Golden Lions.
It marked two SWAC wins in a row for the Golden Lions as it defeated Texas Southern 1-0 just three days earlier.
