BIRMINGHAM , Ala.  – Fresh off a five-set thrilling victory against SWAC foe Alabama A&M, the Alabama State volleyball team will try its hand at one last final nonconference tune up when the Lady Hornets travel to Birmingham to take on UAB on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Lady Hornets (15-13) will be seeking to avenge last year's four-set loss against UAB at home last November.
ASU won the first set, before losing the next three against the Conference USA member.Â
The Blazers (9-21) received a big lift in that match from this season's kill leader Gabby Deshotel, who had 13 kills when the teams last met.Â
DeShotel will be one to watch once again and she leads UAB with 454 kills (4.32 kills per set).Â
She has eight matches with at least 20 kills this season.
As for the Lady Hornets, it will have to do a much better job at defending the UAB attack.Â
The Blazers hit .427 as a team in the previous match up while ASU hit just .148.
A milestone is within reach for senior
Rachel Smith. Â
Smith, who tied a team-high with 16 kills in Friday's win, needs seven kills to reach 1,000 in her four-year career at Alabama State.Â
ASU freshman
Kori Kutsch is coming off a career match, in which she had a career-high 45 assists and added seven digs and four service aces.Â
