Box Score  Saturday looked like a great opportunity for the Alabama State women's basketball team to pick up an important win as Tabitha Bradshaw shot a buzzer beater to send the game into overtime. However, Alcorn put together its best efforts of the season and upset the Lady Hornets 77-72.
The opening minutes saw Alcorn State jump out to a 6-0 lead, but Alabama State wouldn't lie down as they turned the tables and took their first lead at 8-7 with 16:00 minutes left in the first half. The half saw six ties as ASU took a 35-30 lead going into the half.
Alabama State led by as many as nine points (51-42) in the second half at the 10:12 mark, but the Lady Braves chipped off eight quick points to take a one-point lead (56-55). Â
The teams went back and forth exchanging buckets, seeing a 10th tie knotted at 63-63 with 1:19 remaining in the game. A foul by Britney Wright sent Norianna Haynes to the free throw line to advance the Lady Braves up by three (66-63).  Â
But it wasn't over. As the buzzer sounded, Alabama State's Bradshaw took one step beyond center court and swished the shot to end regulation tied 66-66 to take the teams into overtime.
The start of overtime didn't look too promising for the Lady Hornets as Alcorn jumped out and took another eight-point lead. ASU was relentless and eventually chipped the one time nine-point lead to only five. Â
But, unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Lady Braves shot their final free throws to close out the game 77-72.
