The Alabama State baseball team lost 6-3 at home Tuesday to South Alabama at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Â
The Hornets (3-4) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Waldyvan Estrada singled to lead off the inning, and scored on a double to center field by
Chris Biocic for the early advantage.
Â
Alabama State extended its lead in the fifth inning with two outs.
Joseph Estrada's double to left center field scored P.J. Harris, who walked with one out.
Cesar Rivera then singled to left field, scoring Estrada for a 3-0 Hornets' lead.
Â
However, South Alabama (5-3) scored one run in the seventh, three in the eighth, and two in the ninth for the final margin.
Â
Rivera went 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the seven hit-attack for Alabama State.
Â
"I was very happy with our performance at the plate in getting some good at-bats," Alabama State head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. "Starting pitcher
Hunter McIntosh did a good job on the mound (4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 Ks). It's rare our relief pitching gives up five runs in the last two innings. That's not a typical occurrence. For whatever reason, we didn't make quality pitches. South Alabama had better at-bats as the end of the game, and you have to give them credit."
Â
