Troy hit a combined seven home runs to defeat the Alabama State softball team (14-2 and 10-2) in the season home opening doubleheader Tuesday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

Hannah Day hit three home runs and four others also homered to lead the Trojans (9-7).Â

Troy used a seven-run second inning to a grab a big early lead in game one, but the Lady Hornets took a 2-1 lead through four innings in game two.Â

Alabama State was able to take the lead when
Jenna Mae Thorne led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple into right field.Â
After
Carly Evans drew a walk,
Tacresha Favors pinch ran for her at first.Â

Kendall Core drove in Thorne on a RBI groundout and
Aleesa Yanez later drove in Favors on a go-ahead RBI single through the left side.

The Trojans answered directly back with home runs by Carli Kayler, Day and Michelle Phelps and did not look back.Â

Alabama State (3-12) will next head to Deland, Fla., to take part in the Stetson Tournament.Â

The three-day tourney opens Friday with two games against Troy at 10 a.m. and Stetson at 3 p.m.Â
