DELAND, Fla. – The Alabama State softball team saw a tough first day at the Stetson Tournament losing 11-3 to Troy in six innings and 10-0 to host Stetson in five innings on Friday. 
 
In the early game, the Trojans grabbed an early 5-0 lead behind a three-run double to right field by Khadija Neely in the top of the third. 
 
The Lady Hornets struck back with a run in the bottom half of the inning when junior first baseman 
Carly Evans drove in 
Valerie Centeno on a RBI single. 
 
Troy added two runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by Michelle Phelps.
 
ASU sophomore right fielder 
Brittney Wilson answered with a solo home run, her third of the season, to left center. 
 
After Troy (10-7) added another run in the top of the fifth, Alabama State (3-14) put up its final run when 
Aleesa Yanez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 
 
Centeno batted 2-for-4 with a run scored. 
 
Alabama State left nine runners on base.
 
In the late game, Stetson led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before breaking it open with a six-run inning sparked by two home runs.
 
Jenna Mae Thorne, 
Alexis Johnson and 
Kendall Core each had a hit for the Lady Hornets. 
 
The tournament continues Saturday with games against Colgate at 12:30 p.m. (central time) and Stetson at 5:30 p.m.
