UAPB Comes to the Acadome In Women's Basketball Action

The Alabama State women's basketball team will host the Lady Lions of Arkansas Pine bluff for a 3:00 pm tip on Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

The game can be watched and heard live at www.bamastatesports.com.  All information can be accessed through game day central. Tag us, like us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instragram and receive updates on your ASU Athletic programs.

This game will mark the start of the second half of conference play for the Lady Hornets.  Alabama State defeated UAPB earlier this season at the H.O. Clemmons Arena by the score of 64-53.

This will be the 35rd meeting between the Lady Hornets and Pine Bluff, Alabama State owns a 30-6 series lead over the Lady Lions.

ASU will enter tomorrow's game with a 9-10 overall record and are 5-4 in conference play.  The Lady Hornets picked up a big 73-65 conference win over Prairie View A&M Monday night.

SWAC Player of the Week junior Jasmine Peeples has been holding the center spot down scoring a total of 36 points in the last two games.  She is averaging 11.4 points per game and contributing 9.9 rebounds per game on the season.  Britney Wright still leads the Lady Hornets in scoring averaging 14.6 points per contest.  She is second in the league in scoring.

UAPB comes into Saturday's match-up with a 5-15 overall record and are 3-6 in the SWAC, bringing in a 57-49 win over Jackson State.  Carlisha Walker led UAPB with 12 points against Jackson and is leading the Lady Lions in rebounding averaging 6.2 per game.  Destiny Brewton leads the squad in scoring with a 7.9 average per contest.

"UAPB is playing a lot better than when we played them the first time," said Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "They played us tough at their place, so I expect them to do the same thing here, but we are going to have to play just as tough and just as hard in order to get the win.  That's why it's so important that we get off to a good start tomorrow, so that we can knock some of that momentum off in the beginning of the game."

Saturday is slated as Honor Roll day for all elementary students, who made grades of B's or A's on their report card the first and second nine weeks of school.
