Box Score For the first time in five years the Alabama State Women's Basketball team will advance to the SWAC Tournament Semifinals to face Jackson State at the Toyota Center on Friday, March 13 at noon.

The Lady Hornets placed a collective second half effort in its 65-62 win over Grambling State in the quarterfinals of the 2015 SWAC tournament. The win puts ASU 15-14 heading into the game against Jackson State (14-16).

ASU opened up with a quick 10-4 lead in the first four minutes of the first half. Back-to-back turnovers began to be costly for the Lady Hornets as Grambling was able to take a 39-34 lead going into the half.

"We didn't play well in the first half of the game," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "We didn't run our offense like we should have and Grambling caused us a lot of problems, making us turn the ball over several different times and they were able to come back and take the lead."

Britney Wright scored a game high of 24 points and 14 rebounds between both team.Â
Jasmine Peeples tacked on her 12
th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Shamyiah Smith had a career high of six assists and four steals.

"Shamyiah did a great job for us today," Freeman-Jackson said. "She came in when I needed her to and made plays and got the ball in the hands of our scorers. I am very proud of JP (

Britney Wright they both did an outstanding job in the paint putting up shots."

The second half saw GSU come out on a 5-0 run advancing their lead to at least 10 points. ASU went on a run of its own in the last six minutes of the game outscoring the Lady Tigers 9-0 (63-60). Grambling took a final shot with less than 10 seconds left on the clock, rimming off the top of the basket Wright grabbed the rebound getting fouled on the way down from retrieving the ball. Shooting two free throws with 00.06 left on the clock to close out the game with the 65-62 win.
